About AJCI

The African Journal of Crop Improvement (AJCI) is the official journal of the African Plant Breeders Association (APBA), the largest network of academics and professionals committed to the advancement of genetics and plantbreeding in Africa. AJCI is peer-reviewed and comprehensively covers all aspects of crop improvement disciplines.

The articles submitted to AJCI should be high quality analytical, conceptual, applied and empirical studies that demonstrate substantial contribution to the broad domain of African agriculture. Regardless of the research context, tradition, approach, or philosophy, manuscripts submitted to AJCI should demonstrate the relevance of topics investigated to the advancement of agricultural knowledge and better understanding of crop improvement in Africa.

AJCI recognizes plant breeding as a multi-disciplinary endeavor and communicates scientific advances in the various sub-domains encompassing domestication, germplasm collection, characterization and conservation; pre-breeding and breeding of major and underutilized crop species; cultivar development, evaluation and registration/announcement; trait discovery, validation and introgression; genomics-assisted breeding and genome editing; phenomics and speed breeding.

Manuscripts submitted to AJCI should demonstrate high standards of conceptual and analytical science that illustrates the integration of traditional and modern breeding methods relevant for the advancement of agricultural research and development in Africa.
